This week… (22nd - 26th September)

This week we have been learning about our sense of hearing and smell.  We had a visit from Mrs Brown who showed us how hearing aids work and played us sound effects to listen to.  We went for a walk around school to listen for lots of different sounds and lots of us made our own instruments in our creative area.  We also had pots of smelly things and had to guess what was in the pot just by sniffing.  Some of them were very hard to guess!  We made books about the smells we liked and those we didn’t.

We have had lots of fun setting up our hospital role play area.  It has pretend medicines, x-rays, doctor’s tools, babies to look after and a reception desk.  Everyone has their own identity badge for when they are working as a doctor, a nurse, or a surgeon.

In maths we have been practicing sums which equal 5 and trying to learn them off by heart.  We have been trying to write our numbers up to 20 the right way round and putting them in order.  We have been adding and taking away using cubes and number lines and some of us can write number sentences on our own!

We have been reading in groups with Miss Rees and on our own to Mrs Elomari.  Lots of children are reading at home and parents are signing reading records so the teachers have been very busy changing books.

Well done to Lama, Amirah, Mustafa M., Sana, Arslaan, Khadija and Fahima ( and Miss Rees & Mrs Elomari) who have remembered to bring yellow pages into school for our competition.

We have enough books to reach Mr Corteen’s thighs on our graph but still need lots more to reach our target and make a pile as tall as Mr C.
